Our work? We 'create communities which transcend culture' by providing opportunities for increased global awareness and understanding, an individual at a timeñteacher-by-teacher and student-by-student. Technologically speaking the world is getting smaller every day. Therefore, we are experiencing a period of cross-cultural interaction unprecedented in world history. While the technological means have been provided, the opportunity for meaningful communication and collaboration between people of different cultures will not be realized if they are not prepared to encounter the "other" on terms that allow them to be authentic and true to their own beliefs and customs. It is often assumed that one's own approach is somehow "universal" in nature and should be obvious to the other. Consequently, fundamental and abiding misunderstandings often arise. The Laurasian Institution exists to promote meaningful understanding between peoples of different cultures. It is hoped that this will then lead to greater tolerance of differences and thus reduce the potential for conflicts of any scale. In doing so, we believe the opportunity for peace and understanding will be greater than the opportunity for aggression and conflict.
